About me
Gilberto Bertini
I was born on March 8, 1990, in Fiesole, in the hills rising east of Florence. An inclination toward the humanities came to me naturally: history, language, society. I have always observed their shifts, paying keen attention to the nuances of imagery and cultural habits. The editorial tone of the 1990s and the visual language of television held an early fascination for me; even as a child, I found myself reinventing advertising slogans, commercial spots, and cultural news features. For years, I read daily newspapers voraciously—from the moment I learned to read until the restless energy of adolescence nudged me decisively toward the movie camera and the still lens.
My early twenties were defined by continuous experimentation with short films and music videos. During that period, I joined Lady Radio, where I learned how to craft visual identity and commercial campaigns for a radio station. In 2012, I transitioned into communication agencies working across small, medium, and large enterprises. Alongside this, I nurtured my passion for journalism—a path sparked one day in 2005 when, at fifteen, I became first the printer and then the editor-in-chief of Il Divino Mensile, the student paper at Liceo Dante. I never truly stopped writing, though my focus evolved into video journalism: first with the P.M.G. group in Florence, and later, beginning in 2016, with WineNews, the daily press agency of the wine world, where I direct and produce dedicated video features.
In 2015, I established myself as an independent consultant, working externally with private businesses. Over the course of more than a decade, I have guided small business owners, mid-sized firms, and larger companies, collaborating with wine consortia and cultural foundations to develop and solidify their brand image. My dedication to still photography emerged organically in the field, across countless independent sets and larger, structured video productions; between one shot and the next, I honed my sense of composition, eventually investing heavily in dedicated camera bodies and fine prime lenses.
Since 2024, I have served as an instructor of Food Photography at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute—a role I approach with deep responsibility, giving me the opportunity to engage directly with younger generations. I also integrate artificial intelligence across various workflows, approaching it mindfully and purposefully, drawing the utmost creative leverage from it without being steered by it.
Beyond my direct profession, I remain deeply drawn to history, literature, the mystical traditions of every era, and music capable of stirring emotion. Driven by an enduring love of cinema, I have also worked as a projectionist for two seasons at the open-air cinema Chiar di Luna in Florence and at Cinema Giunti Odeon.
